As travelers, inevitably we’ll come across those oases of the asphalt deserts called Rest Stops. These one-stop-shops can be a haven for travelers on their way to destinations unknown. But as with any place that attracts travelers, there are people of all sorts who visit, and they all have some kind of story. The producers at NPR’s This American Life visited the Plattekill Rest Area in New York state to hear some of these stories. It’s a true testament to the human condition.
